“The quality stability, consistency, and finished product ratio of rare earth materials and device products in China are still somewhat different from those in foreign countries.” Jia Xingsong, director of the rare earth office of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, believes that at the forty-fifth China Science and Technology Forum recently held, China’s rare earth industry Development should adhere to the guidance of national strategies and market issues, focus on key objectives, and focus on enhancing independent innovation capabilities and R&D technological levels.

Experts believe that the United States and Europe and other countries and regions will be listed as a key research area of ​​rare earth elements, and the rare earth as a key, strategic, critical materials. China should deal with major issues concerning the development of the rare earth industry, lay out an overall plan, aim at the forefront of science and technology, and meet the requirements of “Made in China 2025”, and strive to make the rare earth industry enter the high end at the end of the “Thirteenth Five Year Plan” period. The application and high value-added development stage will transform the advantages of rare earth resources into industrial and economic advantages so that the strategic value will be fully realized.

On the forum, Academician Yan Chunhua of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other academicians made a special report, introduced the current research progress in the field of rare earths in China, expounded the transformation process of scientific research achievements in the field of rare earth luminescence, and demonstrated the economic and social benefits of the relevant achievements. At the same time, it called for strengthening the basic research of permanent magnet materials and hydrogen storage battery materials and solving the technical bottleneck problem that restricts the development of new energy vehicles in China.

The forum was divided into four sections: production, learning, research, and government. The current status of the rare earth industry, the current major problems, and the development trend of science and technology in specialized fields were discussed.
